ourselves, lest we be
scattered over the
whole earth and be separated."
They set to
making bricks, and they cemented them together with mud for
mortar. They hoped the tower would last forever.
The Lord came
down to see the city and the tower which the children of men were
building, and He said, "Behold! these people are one, and
speak the same language. They begin to feel that they can
accomplish anything they desire. I shall confound their language
so that they may not understand one another's speech."
No longer able to
talk together, the people left off building their city and their
tower, which they called "Babel" because it was
confusing.
From Babel they
scattered abroad over the face of all the earth, forming different
nations with different languages.
