The Story of Jesus

Palm Sunday

All Jerusalem was excited. People flocked out the city gate and hurried along the road to Mount Olivet. Many of them had come to Jerusalem for the Passover. They wanted to meet Jesus because they had heard so much about him.

As Jesus and his disciples came near to Jerusalem, he said to two of them, "Go to the

village near by. As you enter the village, you will see a colt that has never been ridden. Untie him and bring him to me. If anyone asks, 'Why do you do this?' say, 'The Lord has need of him.' "

The two disciples went to the village, found the colt, and untied it. Some asked, "Why are you untying that colt?" When they heard that Jesus needed the colt they let it go.

The disciples brought the colt to Jesus and spread their coats on its back. Then Jesus sat on the colt. Many people spread their clothes along the road for Jesus to ride over. Others waved palm branches. They shouted, "Blessed is the King who is coming in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!" All along the way people were rejoicing and praising God.

In the crowd were Pharisees who had come to find fault. They said to Jesus, "Make the people stop shouting."

Jesus answered, "If they should be still, the stones would immediately cry out."

As Jesus rode up Mount Moriah to the temple, the people shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David!"

The city people hurried into the streets to ask, "Who is this?"

The crowd answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee."
