The Story of Jesus

The Lost Sheep

Some of the Pharisees and scribes had been complaining because, they said, he associated with sinners. So, Jesus told a parable to describe what the love of God is like.

Jesus said: "Which man among you, if he should have a hundred sheep and should lose one of them, would not leave the ninety-nine sheep

where they were, and go after the lost one until he find it? And when he had found it, he would lay it on his shoulders, rejoicing, and would call his friends and neighbors together, and say, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.'

I tell you that likewise there shall be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over the ninety and nine people, already righteous, who do not need repentance."
