the weeds, they came to the man and asked, 'Didn't you sow good seeds in your field? Where did all
these weeds come from?'
"The man answered, 'An enemy has sown the weeds.'
" 'Shall we pull out the weeds?' the servants asked.
" 'No,' said the master, 'wait until the time for the harvest. If you pull up the weeds now, you will pull up the wheat with them. When the wheat is ripe, I will send reapers to gather the weeds, tie them in bundles, and burn them. Then they will gather the wheat and put it in my barn.' "
Next Jesus said, "The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed. A man planted it in his field, and it became the tallest thing there. Even the birds came and made nests in its branches."
The women listened more closely when they heard Jesus say, "The kingdom of heaven is also like leaven or yeast that a woman puts into
the dough when she is mixing bread. The yeast works through all the dough and causes it to rise."
At last Jesus sent the people away. Then the disciples asked "Tell us the meaning of the story about the weeds and the
Jesus said, "The good seeds are the people of God, and the weeds are the evil people. Someday God will separate the evil from the
good, just as the farmer separates the weeds from his wheat."
