The Story of Jesus

Peter And The Risen Lord

While the disciples were fishing on the Sea of Tiberias, Jesus appeared to them on the shore. But the disciples did not recognize him.

"Have you any fish?" He asked. They answered: "We have none."

Then He said: "Cast your net on the right side, and you shall catch

something." And when they had done so, they could scarcely pull it in, it was so heavy with fishes.

"It is the Lord!" cried John to Peter.

But some of them were fearful, thinking that they saw a ghost. Then Jesus said: "Be not troubled. Behold My hands and My feet with the nail wounds. A ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see Me have."

With great joy they came ashore where there was a little fire laid, and fish broiling over the coals. And Jesus said: "Come and eat."

Then He asked Simon Peter: "Simon, do you love Me more than these?" Simon answered: "Yes, Lord." Then Jesus commanded: "Feed My sheep."

A second and a third time he asked this same question, and Simon was grieved.

"Master," he said, "You know all things. You know that I love You."

Jesus said once more: "Feed My sheep."

Then in the joyful light of the sunrise Jesus took His last leave of His disciples, promising them, "Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."

And with a final blessing. He vanished forever from their sight.
