The Last Judgment
Jesus told his disciples that at the end of the world the Son of
man will come in his glory with the angels. He will sit upon his throne. Before him all the nations of the earth will be gathered.
Then he will divide the good from the evil. Those who have believed in him, he will place on his right. Those who have disobeyed, he
will place on his left. The good and the evil will be divided just as the shepherd divides the sheep from the goats.
"Then shall the Son of man be King," said Jesus. "He will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed of my Father, and
live in the kingdom which has been prepared for you. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was
a stranger, and you took me in. I did not have clothes to wear, but you gave me some. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison
and you came to see me there.'
"And the ones on the right will reply, 'Lord, when did we see you in need and do all this for you?'
"And the King will answer, 'Whenever you helped one needy person, you helped me.'
"Then the King will turn to those on his left and say, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the everlasting punishment that
has been prepared for the devil and his helpers. For I was hungry, and you did not feed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me nothing to
drink. I was a stranger, and you would not take me in. I was without clothes, but you did not help me. I
was sick, but you did not visit me. I was in prison, but you did not come to me there.'
"And the ones on the left will reply, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or without clothes, or a stranger, or sick, or in
prison, and not help you?'
"And he will say to them, 'Whenever you refused to help anyone, you refused to help me.'
"And those on the right," said Jesus, "will go into life eternal, but those on the left will have everlasting punishment."
